ghosts buried shallow a few inches deep
they're letting them out they're chewing the street
seal them back in pavement dragons
exhaling steam as pressure's building
underground serpents posing as train cars
digesting commuters and they never know it
she stood up to one once and she barely made it
collapsed underneath missing electrified claws
if they ever escape she's since been training
she's been hurling cars from building to building
so far they burn up, never reaching their targets
but she's getting closer every day
and it's not her fault
this self-imposed exile
she wanted out
but i talked her down
said long days are here,
hard days are coming, they're coming
and we need a real
superhero
aerosol kings they're spraying her mind
she's trying to hide trying to silence
my sage advice; i took her too young
she never accepted, now she sleeps in their castles
she never knew love, she never felt normal
but i can't bring myself to let her go
if she's going to save us from old buried monsters
she's gotta believe me, no she can't ever know
it's not her fault
this self-imposed exile
she wanted out
but i talked her down
said long days are here,
hard days are coming
and we need a real
superhero
and jennifer doesn't want to believe
and jennifer is begging please let me go
and jennifer is through fighting dragons
but jennifer is a real superhero yeah
now they came along and gave her new armor
warm coat and hat they tempted her to the clinic
got her some pills explained that she's crazy
in soft soothing words and they promised to help
as i'm fading out i scream so she fights them
i need strength to convince her she's been taken by demons
dragons disguised in white linen coats
they're saying it's over the potions are helping
it's turning to black i'm beneath the surface
the monsters are tearing me shredding the pieces
but i'm still awake for a few days at least and
time is a worry that i can ignore yeah
it's not her fault
this self-imposed exile
she's getting out
but i'll talk her down
saying long days are here,
hard days are coming
and we need a real
superhero
mild mannered jennifer
